Steps in a Direction

To be honest I think I've been pretty lazy when it come to defining a path. I really have been some what content in the hope that the work I've been putting in would get noticed and in some way I'd be rewarded for this work. Instead any reward has been blocked or overlooked at some point. I guess I dont stand out enough from the crowd of fellow opportunity seekers. Blend back into the crowd old boy, the opportunity with the position I am currently in is limited. At least as a direct path and with the life changes now made the priority I am going to have to reach harder than ever. She requires it, and it the best thing for her. So the route I am laying out has got to be direct and clear cut. I've been thinking about it a large amount today since going back to school full time is out of the question right now I'm going to have to go the certification route. ITIL is looking like a decent place to start. A foundations certification will at least get the momentum going and the start up cost doesn't look to be much. The job listings are asking for it so I think that along with a project management coarse or two should kick me off int he right direction. I honestly dont think the ITIL cert would take very much extra education because it is a base process I use daily, so only the book terms and step location would need to be memorized. So I say it today here and now this is where I'm starting. This is the first step in a stagnant water removal process and it must be done! Amazon ITIL study books here I come...

She doesn't want to nap

Guess I can't complain, she sleep at least 8 hours through the night. But when I'm home or even just for Mel, she starts getting grumpy because she's tired. She will take a nap for about five to ten but that's it. Anyone have any great tips? Melissa's really looking for some, me too... ;-) is she worth it? Not a doubt, she's worth everything...

Solids

Well she has had some "solid" foods for the first time 2 weeks ago. Her first real food (minus that rice cereal) was Avocado. She gets about a table spoon around lunch time with her milk still being the primary source of food. Figured since were having a shortage of mommy milk the solids shouldn't be much worse for her than the formula. (If not 1000 times better). Mommy feels bad about not being able to give her the "best stuff on earth" but she did everything she could to keep it going.. So Mega props to her. She still get a little and I'm sure Riley loves every drop. Its fun watching her try the solids, that first bite as you see to the left is always the same. "Whats this?, Do I like it?" Then she chows down. So far to date its been Rice cereal, Avocado, Carrots, Peas, and Sweet Potatoes. Those being the ones in the picture.   Shes growing so fast and I only think its going to get faster. She will be 20 lbs in no time. My Daily Riley curls are not going to be enough. Soon I'm going to actually have to start working out.

She's looking intently at things, trying to contemplate what to do with them, how to reach them, and how to take them over with these things called hands. "If only i knew what they were for?", I'm sure shes thinking about the hands and the cards. "Wow look at the thing on the card, what is it? All these people seem to only put certain ones down. Nana hasn't put the one down I've touched for two turns, why?" Millions of questions if she even knows what a question is. Its just an absorption period I'm sure. She will worry about what they are and how she can use them to take over the world later, its just a stock pile of information right? Can we give her to much information and cause an overload? I don't know but it does not sound possible, does it? I would hate to do that but I'm going to error on the side of as much information my pea brain can give her won't hurt her. People say talk to her as an adult. Sure sometimes I think that's fine but can you really resist goofing and speaking in a high voice or some silly off key one? I can't so if that is wrong and you read this latter in life Riley after I've already done all the damage I could; know I'm sorry. I did my best not to screw you up to bad. Likely hid some of the oddities I have from you for a long time. Hopefully along with this fragmented thought and ramble on issue I have and am showing here.

I find the process of a child learning amazing. They truly are sponges. I hope she forms many more wrinkles in her brain than I ever will. Those little Mad Scientist blocks at Think Geek  are awesome, I think I'm going to have to get her a set just to help out. Maybe a set of those various language blocks too..  Ohh so many things I can think of to help her make wrinkles maybe while playing with her she might give her daddy a few dozen new ones too. I can't wait most exciting time of my life so far.

Happy 4th of July to all. Thanks to all who sacrificed so this country could become the greatest nation this planet has seen thus far. Thanks to the Military and non military. The land owners and the slaves. Our diverse short history has changed the world for all time. Through all the crazy stuff we do the corruption and the humanity we show we can and will remain the nation all the world wants to be like. We have our problems but we have the people to change those problems, because in America anyone can create change.

Now on to the rest of life. Riley is getting bigger every day. She is waiting for her cousin to join us any day now. Possibly even today if he continues Riley's start of holiday births. We can only wait and see. His room appears ready and his parents are waiting to see his face for the first time. Ultrasounds just don't do you any justice when you know they are right there and you can almost touch them. Its an amazing thing when they touch you and I know my sister and brother in law are getting anxious for that first one on one meeting with their son. He will be brought into a great home and an interesting family. With aunts, uncles, grandmas, nanas, gg's, grandpas, papa's and many more on pins and needles for his arrival. I look forward to Riley's and Derek's first meet and the growing together there is to come.

The roll on Video

Well a few days ago I caught her rolling on video. It was hard, but now as I make this post I can say she is an expert and does it multiple times a day. She has yet to figure out how to go from belly to back but is working hard and gaining much ground. I am finishing up a 7 day stretch at work after covering for another employee on vacation. 12 hours a day for 7 days straight wears on you physically and in the missing your family department. I hate going home , eating then going I'm ready for bed. A couple of the night I had to pass the putting Riley bed task to mommy all by her self. she understood and I'm sure Riley didn't mind to much. Can't wait to get back to the normal sched. I enjoy every moment with both of my girls. Well anyways enjoy the video and the commentary I and Melissa have provided.

First laugh Friday the 11th while I was just talking about nothing at all to her non stop. She found that so funny... Another amazing milestone in my mind.Can't wait to see whats next...

Rolling

Well she rolled over yesterday. It was awesome. Would she do it when the camera was running? No, and hasn't since. She's rolled again but did I have the camera? No, it was on the other side of the room. That's just the way it happens I guess.

The only said thing is just before she rolled (while I was getting ready for work) my dog had a stroke or something. I thought he was just stretching and did it a little fast. (hit his head on the kennel a little loud, caught my attention) I would of finished putting on my shirt and we would of been going outside. Not this day, I watched him take his last breath. He was a good boy the day before a little stressed from the storms that day, I just really wish I'd of given him a treat, played with him a little extra. Something to make sure his day at least ended well. I feel said we didn't do that. So if your reading this, play with your dog a little extra tonight in honor of Otis.

Growing so fast

Every day I see new things. It's amazing how quickly she is growing and developing. I look so forward to the new sound, the new coo, the looks. Danced with her the other day and she went crazy with smiles. It's easy to get lost and forget the issues, the problems of the worlds. Amazing is the only word I know even near what words are not capable of. Prodigious maybe gets it nearer the truth. I have a picture of  her nearly every day. Shes only 2 months old and you cans see the changes already. The way she wants to sleep like her mother (aunt too), she loves to play and make the Indian sounds by putting you hand over your lips. You do it first then use your hand to do it for her. She hasn't figured out hat she has to make the sound through her mouth and not her nose yet but I look for that to come. Amazing times that I hope everyone one day gets to experience in one way or another. Shes worth every shot Mel had to take and every $ we had to and will have to spend. You are awesome I mean prodigious.

Adventure at the Beach

Well we had our first adventure at the beach. Like when we take her anywhere, she slept right through it. We brought her out into the nice warm Gulf waters and the reaction we got was ehhh as she pulled her hand out of the water then let it fall slowly back in. We spent a few hours on the beach and around the water. I think all in all its a memorable experience. Not for her but for the rest of us. I think all in all as long as week douse her in the sun screen again and personally I reapply  (Slight burn for me) we will be going to the beach regularly. Maybe sometime soon we will get a different response than Ehhhh... :-D

Well she has arrived. 19 hours of labor (me sitting), and 2 1/2 pushes a new beautiful little girl has arrived into the world. Could I even try to describe how or what I feel. Not in a million years. There are no words I know that can do it justice. Love is the closest word I know but it in itself does not describe the feelings or the emotions that run through your mind. Among those feeling are worry, excitement,  optimism and wonder. Worry everyday with hows shes doing, excitement in what is to come , optimistic about what she can become and wonder at the path life will take from here on. Now for the facts, shes was born at 12:21 pm 6 lbs 15 oz at 20 inches long. The picture to the right was taken her first week home. As of today she is an infant because her cord has fallen off 2 days ago and every day she gets more amazing. It may be the sleep deprivation that makes the simplest things seem so neat and cool, but I don't think so. I think it is the amazement that 43 weeks ago she was microscopic with only 2 cells total that divided perfectly to create a living breathing human. A little girl that is half of me and half of her mother. One hopes the best half of both. Time will tell and everyday the future we look forward to her will change every so slightly into the person she decides to become, the human with all the rest of the world changing around her that she choose or it helps create her to be. I look forward to watching every moment optimistic towards the world and the ability and determination she decides to put towards it.

What an Interesting time. Working on a room for the Baby on the way. A little girl. So much to do with so little time left to do it in. At this point only 20 weeks left and about 60 weeks worth of 1 at a time projects. With work, appointment's, weddings, other people baby showers, etc there is no time. Plus trying to have some resemblance of a life with fun. I need a pause button to fit in a TV show during the week. No a better solution would be more TV's in Every room showing exactly what was on the other. Oh and the remote must work from all rooms. Problem, all the money for those new TV's needed for the baby room. Oh well Guess I'll have time after shes born right? (I wonder how much space my DVR has?) Yeah that's right time frees up after the kid is born (if only I believed that)... Great time though, wouldn't trade them for the world. Not even the world....

Some days

So much going on right now. An amazing time with the brain and everything else unstable at the moment. Getting read to take a needed short break. Well break may not always be the ideal word but thats what I'm going treat it like. Its call the low budget drive to see family. But hey can't have great amounts of theme park and 100 stop restaurant fun all the time. The big news is in less than 200 days there will be a little Houzvicka in the world. It's amazing to think all it took and how much in the hole I'm starting just due to it's birth. But hey a hole is made so you can dig yourself out of it right? Have to shovel the dirt in day by day. So much work to do on the house just to get ready, in October we find out the sex and I think this week is the 13th already. 40 total if all goes as planned. Still fighting with the insurance company about the money they should of paid and didn't but that should be resolved in a month or 200. Today having a yard sale to sell the junk that I'll end up just giving away to Salvation Army if it doesn't. I need the room in my garage. It's amazing how people haggle with you on prices (I don't mind this its a yard sale) but the others you tell them a higher price and they don't even try a lower one. They think thats your final price, haggle people. I shouldn't have to say while your walking away what do you think is good. ITS A YARD SALE not a retail store. When I worked in those I had people haggle all the time (and thats just funny, Sure I can lower the price of that TV screw what the manager says). Honestly this is old crap, I'm happy to give it to you I just want a little green or silver for it. Thanks for reading me ramble I'm done now...

Explain This to me

Ok trying to figure this one out. For those of you who don't know my Wife and I are going through IVF. Very expensive to say the least I'm broke now. Anyway's, Before we did the IVF we did the things called IUI's Insurance covered 100% besides the final part where we paid 200.00 each time we went through it.

No big deal compared to the IVF. The IVF we have literally paid thousands which is 20% of what our insurance paid not counting a surgery Mel had to have earlier this year which helped with the deductible etcetera.

Well we went to an appointment today that consisted of a blood test and ultrasound same exact thing that we did with the IUI and we paid 0.00 because insurance covers it @ 100%. Well this time there was a 40.00 charge I question as to why there is a 40.00 charge. The answer because they put an office visit on the bill. Ok well I understand if we see a doctor and sit in the office or ask a tin of questions that there could be an office charge.

I'd accept this with no issues. But there is nothing different from this visit to the IUI. With the IUI they did the ultra sound the and blood work, the doctor reviews the information and says increase dose, reduce dose, keep same dose etcetera. The Ultrasound nurse calls and relays whatever the doctor said.

Well the exact same thing is going to happen today, the only difference will be that the ART nurses will call. (Nurses that deal with only people doing IVF). So I call the billing lady and ask "Why the extra charge for an office visit when this is the exact same procedure as the IUI?" She says that its because the doctor reviews the results of the test. I reply with that is the exact same thing they did with the IUI. My final answer was this is what we do for patients that have insurance.



Hummmmmm. So I get charged more because I pay out of my pocket less............

Explain this to me please!

Oh and this is going to happen at least 2 more times possibly many more.....

The bill

I find it amazing how two opposing views cause so much fighting. I disagree with giving anyone anything long term that one can work for and provide themselves, others believe that certain things should not be an individuals responsibility and should be given to them. There nothing wrong with either view except the view that it has to be one way or the other. In my opinion the more that is given to you the more you rely on the person giving. This gives them (the giver) more control. Now the same can be said when you give your money to a corporation, the only difference in my opinion is I can give someone else that money, if it becomes my government that I'm giving the money to what can I do (quickly) if I don't like what or how they are spending it?

Where government should step in is to make sure those corporations are treating everyone the same and create basic guidelines on what should be offered to the people. Personally I believe part of today's bill does some of that, but a larger part of the bills makes me do something I may not want to. With the items that are going on in my life today and the way the bill currently is, not a lot is going to change. From the looks of it I will have less in the elective coverage because I have whats considered a "Cadillac" plan. So for the same amount of money the company I have will likely drop a lot of the optional coverage because more of that money will be going to pay for others lower end plans. From the amount that is coming out of my pocket to pay for it I don't think its a high end plan, I feel as though I'm paying for it and at this time in my life and the issues we are going through it's worth every penny (and I don't have many pennies left).

Now there are other people in my family and friends that don't have any insurance because there job does not offer it. Part of the bill I like is that it will make employers get insurance or pay a fine for each of their employees. The issue I see with this is I think they are missing the reason why companies don't offer insurance. Cost is why they don't offer it, I certainly don't think the majority of companies are so greedy that they don't. Addressing cost is key. Large business picked up insurance as a way to lure more employees if the cost was affordable so would smaller companies.

The solution to this would be lets lower the overall cost of health care by 1. setting a cap on the amount a lawyer can make of the case of an individual (they currently make a percentage in most cases and most of our house and senate were what?) 2.Medicaid and medicare pay a set amount for each procedure, why? If the government pays a set amount and that amount doesn't either cover the cost or is more than most would charge whats going to happen. A. they are going to pass the extra cost onto others or B they are going to charge everyone more based on that price.

[Tangent: Just like the current issue in Florida with Home owners insurance you can't stop competition, competition lowers cost. If the (in my opinion) corrupt government official who was supposedly taking large sums of money from the insurance companies didn't stop the rule that prevented home owners insurance companies to sell under a separate company in Florida our insurance rates would not be as high as they are today. End of tangent]

Also there should be serious benefits for not for profit hospitals and Dr's at least in the short term. This would show how much the costs should really be and give you competition and a shopping option.

[Tangent: The equipment Dr's use are extremely costly no doubt but 600 - 3,000 dollars for each cat scan is crazy. If your doing just 10 a day 1,560,000 - 7,800,000 a year. From what I can see they are likely doing more than 10 a day. Cost of an average cat scan machine from 200,000 - 500,000. Now I'm pretty sure they don't replace those machines every year and I'm sure there is some kind of maintenance cost to it plus labor for the techs who get paid ok. On the low end fee and the high end machine that's 1,060,000 profit if you were to buy a machine each year. Retail store generally charge 50 -100% markup on every item so if they were buying a new 500,000 dollar machine each year this would be justified. end tangent]

Bottom line I feel and what I should of just said to begin with is I believe heath care reform is needed. I do not believe they are going about it the right way and depending on which polls you chose to believe neither do the majority of the American people. I believe the solution is to give people more choice by having government only stick a toe into it not jump in with both hands. I guess we will see where this goes I hope that it doesn't make thing worse and opens a door for real non single dependent change.

I love looking at older pictures in this case from 2002, almost 8 years ago. I find it like looking at old technology but in reverse. With the technology you go man those cell phones were so big and heavy. They couldn't do much and were real slow. Where as when you look at an old picture your like wow I could run so much faster, was so much skinnier, and looked so much better. Oh well hopefully many more years to go and in another 20 years I'll be doing the same with pictures from today. Sorry to all of you who right now are going, "you think your old, wait till you get to my age". No worries its my plan.

Amazing. People are absolutely amazing. What can one person do with a block of time some determination and an idea? The answer, Anything. Take this little picture to the side of this post. Is it the best Dachshund cake ever? Yes it is. Why? Well besides the fact that my sister made it, it shows one way people can be amazing. Just joking around (after a previous birthday cake in the shape of a pyramid) I said I wanted a cake with the Sistine chapel on it. Did I really? No way, but it was funny to say. So what do Melissa and I get, a cake with our dog on it. Great, Awesome, superb. Just goes to show with a block of time an idea and some initiative anything can be done. I work 12 hour shifts Sundays being an extremely slow day 90% of the time, today I started a project I have until the end of February to complete, well with no distractions I'm already 75% done. Just some documentation and testing to do. Should have all that done next Sunday baring no major issues. I just find it amazing that with few distraction and a fairly set goal what can be accomplished. There was no bribery or back stabbing, or even constant talking done here just work. Thought I'd share.

Brain on fire

Ever have so much stuff going on in your head it feels like your brain is on fire? Were not talking bad things good things or otherwise. Just Ideas. No drama, no scripts just flashes of things where you sit there and go, oh I'd like to try that. Lately I have had so many ideas popping in there I'm trying to keep track of them. Some are old ideas I haven't thought about in years, I can honestly say forgot about years ago. Head feels like a pan of popcorn with the lid on to tight. I'm not one to sit around playing video games, (although this assassin's creed II very good game, Ill be done with it in a few more hours of play) even if I'd like to. I found myself cleaning the yard and garage the other day with Mel and tons of stuff, ideas just started working there way up. Little improvements for ideas I was already working on. When I sit at work all day, the work is done in no time, no challenge there anymore, they moved all the fun stuff to other places, I find my mind working on other things while I'm completing something in front of me. Oddly this got me thinking at the same time about capabilities. What is locked up inside our minds. There has got to be mass amounts of something up there. Well in most people. Some people I'm going to chalk it off as fat, just fat. This stuff can't just be sitting there and serve no purpose, can it? Why would there be so much of it just to do nothing, just to sit around insulating the rest. Do we need the warmth? Wish I had more of the means to make the ideas in my mind come to fruition. Most are useless and we are not talking about any money makers here. When those come up I know how to put pen to paper and start selling those ones. It just the useless ones that would only be for the sake of doing that I'd like to explore more of. Then again maybe I'm thinking about it all wrong maybe the useless ones are the ones everyone wants. Maybe some of those should be sold.....

Melissa has started staying at home and is no longer working at a place that sends a check, so she has taken up a few additional duties as a full time domestic. She is learning how to cook a variety of things and is actually doing better than I thought these first few meals would be. Considering I've done 98% of all the cooking since we have lived together she is doing superb. The house for the most part is shiny minus a span of a dryer breaking down and cloths were getting scarce. Not her fault dryer was bound to break. Now that its up and running. The only real downside is the power bill just went up. Don't know if I can blame her for that or this global warning.... Either way glad to have her at home most of the time. Your doing well babe.

Another year 2009

Another year has come and gone. So many yet so few things have happened. Things you don't want to remember and thing you never want to forget. Friends have changed, people have moved but the world still turns in the same direction. Politicians you agree with and ones you don't. Companies firing and other hiring (not as many as you'd like). Points in life that you want to reach and having monkey wrenches thrown at them in times of need. Every year you say "is it Christmas already" because when you look back you realize how precious that time was, how much you would like to go back and change something ever so slightly, how quickly your time will go. In ten years you'll say where did the last 10 years go? In 50 you'll say oh what I could of done if....

The real truth is one day at a time and there is never enough time. Cherish every moment and try to remember every memory. Tell those stories of when you were a kid or back in your day.... They are how we continue and give us something to look forward to. Your goal in life is nothing more than to live it. to experience everything you can and enjoy every moment you can. As far as I know there is only once change here, so even if your not president and don't think you can change the world, you can change things. Maybe not on the global scale you think your life should be worth, maybe were just here to change the ones around us, the ones we love. Maybe the years go by so fast so we don't waste them, don't not pick up the phone and call your kids, don't not play that game of cards. Maybe our point is just to be that point in someone's life. Be the shoulder, that kick when they need it, that story of a fish so big... This year just be. Do nothing else but be.

Something so Simple

It is amazing how something so simple for people you would consider don't deserve it, can be so hard for you. Now mind you it's simple for others as well that do deserve it but they tend to be the ones that have some kind of complication. I guess its just one of those ways they test you. At least me believing in a higher power is going to say that. The only other thing I can think that would cause the issue would be environmental, but you can rule that out right away because all the people around you are not having any issue. I guess its just what keeps life interesting and give other people the drive to do something about it. It truly is an amazing world we live in, where something that could not happen on its own for whatever the reason, we as people have found a way to make it happen. To correct the error, the brain misfire, whatever the cause. Now by all means we are not perfect at this, but every moment we get better. Thanks to all of those people who strive to fix what we or something else has broken.

I stumbled across this program. It is very big brother like, but has a decent ULA and allows you to shut it off if you'd like. It tracks all the applications you use on your PC. Tells you how long you use them for and suggests other programs that may interest you. Show you what other people are using and what they say about it. I'm liking it so far. We will see what it does as time goes on. No disruptive adds, actually no ads of any kind unless your at their site. At this time I'm suggesting check it out. who knows you may end up liking it.
